Volusion’s Old Themes vs. New Themes

Volusion’s Old Themes vs. New Themes

Is it worth switching from your old v1.0 Volusion theme to their newer v2.0 theme? It sure is! Volusion’s team has done a great job with the new 2.0 versions of the themes we’ve come to know and love such as: Cherish, Dress Express, Technologik, and District. If you need more convincing, take a look below, and maybe it’ll change your mind.

Responsive Design

All of the new Volusion v2.0 templates are built with the most popular HTML, CSS, and JS framework known as Bootstrap. Bootstrap’s responsive aspect is based around a 12 column grid system, which allows for proper display all the way down to your mobile devices. Want to see if your website is responsive? Test your site here.

Modern Code

The new templates are built cleaner with newer code standards implemented, which makes your website easier to modularize. This will make your developers happy, and when your developers are happy, you’re happy! The new templates also come with Volusion DTK JavaScript (Design Toolkit), which allows for separation of CSS within different page types (i.e Product, Category, Home). This separation allows for greater customization on a page by page basis.

Simplified Navigation System

When you install one of Volusion’s v2.0 templates you’ll notice that the many and confusing options you had to work with before have been simplified. This is great for multiple reason:

  • Clean Code (#1 Reason)
  • New Design Possibilities
  • Mobile Menus
  • Mega Menus

Did someone say FREE?

Volusion has quite a few awesome v2.0 templates that they are offering for FREE. See Volusion’s Ecommerce templates site for more information.

Overall, the new themes are a great update. So far we’ve only found one weird issue when updating, and that is in regards to the ShoppingCart.asp page. It seems that Article IDs 118, 119, and 120 that were present on this page before are no longer generated. These articles are what populate the text under the “Returning Customers | New Customer” Section. If anyone has any info on this, please leave a comment below with your findings! My understanding is that Volusion wanted to make the checkout process smoother and simpler so they removed the articles.
