This is Part 3/7: Meet the Team Mondays
We met with our Project Coordinator, Cathy and asked her a few questions about where she’d like to travel, platforms, and music!
B7: What is your job here at Border7 Studios?
Cathy: I’m the Project Coordinator. I really enjoy liaising between our wonderful Clients, and our fun team of developers, designers, and sales folks, to make sure that everything is running smoothly and according to the timeline. What’s best about Border7 is that we do work well together as a team, and that while we are serious about our jobs, we enjoy challenges, and take whatever the day offers in stride with a positive attitude, and a sense of humor.
B7: Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Cathy: I’d say it would have to be working in the film industry, because you’re essentially working freelance, for around 8 months of the year on a movie or tv project, and each project , cast and crew is unique. The most fun is when you get to go on location, like when I worked as the First Assistant Film Editor on “Edward Scissorhands,” which was shot just outside of Tampa, Florida. It was great fun to work with the director, Tim Burton, who was even kind enough to do an interview about me, for my small home town newspaper.
Cathy: Europe by train would be a grand way to see a lot of different countries. Old architecture, a goat or two to photograph, some nice wine; so many possibilities!
B7: If you were to open an E-commerce store, what would you sell?
Cathy: I have a couple of shops on Etsy. Cathy Best Design, where I sell my original photographs and art tiles, and Boodlyhead, where I sell my textile creations. I’m working now on opening a shop on Shopify where I can sell everything I do under one roof. I love creating things with strong graphic interest, and if I can make it a bit absurd, all the better.
B7:What do you like to do on the weekends?
Cathy:There’s nothing as great as hanging out with my family, going for a hike on a shady trail in the Santa Monica mountains, riding a horse, doing some photography, or creating some graphic design or art project.
B7: If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?
Cathy: Probably German. I took it in High School and in College, but I’ve forgotten a lot of it. It’s fun to watch German movies with subtitles and see what I can still understand, but speaking it is another thing all together, and I’d hate to hear myself mangle the language.
B7: What is your favorite movie or show?
B7: Do I only get one? I love movies and tv shows that utilize imaginative cinematography, and have unique characters, but aren’t merely plot driven. A few of my favorite movies would be Blade Runner, The Fall, Monty Python & the Holy Grail. TV Shows: Netflix’s Daredevil (which my husband edited!), Game of Thrones, Hannibal, Justified, and Veep.
B7: What is your favorite music to listen to?
Cathy: I still love 80’s & 90’s alternative bands like The Clash, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Pogues, The Stranglers,The Housemartins, Radiohead, and Sigur Ros, to name just a few.
B7: What is your hidden talent?
Cathy: I don’t know if you’d call this more of a skill, rather than a talent, but people I just meet are often compelled to confide in me, for some reason. Maybe it’s that I’m from North Carolina, and I’m really polite, or maybe it IS mind control after all.
B7: If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
Cathy: *laughs* Well in that case, it’s going to be a comedy. I think Kristen Wiig, or Tina Fey would be pretty accurate casting.
B7: If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be?
Cathy: Remembering people’s faces. Not celebrities, they’re easy, it’s people I don’t see everyday or know very well, like most of my neighbors. Take them out of the location I relate them to, and I turn into Kristen Wiig, trying to place where I know these ‘friendly’ people.
